Privacy Policy

1. What the Software Does Locally
The Software stores the following information only on your own computer, under your Windows user profile (in %AppData%\ScreenTextCapture):
- Capture history — the text you've captured in past sessions, so it's available to you after restarting the app.
- License information — your trial start date and, if purchased, your license key, encrypted using Windows' built-in per-user data protection (DPAPI), so it can only be read by your own Windows account on this machine.
- App preferences — your theme choice (light/dark) and capture interval setting.
None of this data is sent anywhere. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export or share it yourself (for example, by saving captured text to a .txt or .docx file and sending that file to someone).
2. Text Recognition (OCR)
Text recognition is performed entirely on your device using Windows' own built-in OCR engine (Windows.Media.Ocr). No image, screenshot, or recognized text is ever uploaded to us or to any third-party server.
3. Network Connections
Text recognition, screen capture, and everything described in Section 1 happen entirely on your device and are never transmitted anywhere. The Software does make a small number of limited network requests as part of normal operation, described below. None of them include your captured text, screenshots, or OCR results.
- License activation and validation — when you activate a license key, and periodically afterward (about once every 14 days) to confirm your key is still valid, the Software contacts our license provider, Lemon Squeezy, sending your license key and a device identifier (your computer name) so it can verify your license. This exchange is handled directly by Lemon Squeezy's License API; see their privacy policy for how they process it.
- Update checks — on startup, the Software checks a small file hosted on our website to see if a newer version is available. This is a standard web request (like loading any webpage) and does not send any information about you or your usage beyond what any web request includes (such as your IP address, visible to our hosting provider).
- Buying a license — clicking a "Buy a License" link inside the app opens your default web browser to our purchase page, the same as clicking any link. The Software itself does not transmit anything as part of that action.
If you're offline, the Software continues to work normally — license validation and update checks fail silently and are simply retried later.
4. What We (The Publisher) Collect
If you purchase a license through our storefront, that transaction is handled by our payment processor, which collects the information necessary to complete your purchase (such as your email address and payment details) under its own privacy policy. We receive only what's needed to issue you a license key and provide support — typically your email address and purchase confirmation. We do not sell or share this information with third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Children's Privacy
The Software is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
6. Your Control Over Your Data
Since all app data lives locally on your device, you're always in full control of it:
- Clear your capture history anytime from within the app ("Clear All").
- Delete all app data by removing the
%AppData%\ScreenTextCapturefolder after uninstalling. - Uninstalling the Software removes the installed program files; your
%AppData%folder is not automatically deleted (standard Windows behavior), so you can manually remove it if you want no trace left.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in an updated "Last updated" date above.
